Buying a Used Bike in Pakistan: Complete Guide
Published on January 18, 2026
Bikes are the most affordable form of transport in Pakistan. Whether you want a Honda CD 70 for commuting or a Yamaha YBR for style, here's how to buy safely.
1. Decide Your Budget and Need
- Commuting: 70cc (CD 70, Pridor) — fuel-efficient, cheap parts
- Mixed use: 100-125cc (CG 125, YBR) — more power, still economical
- Style/Performance: 150cc+ (CB 150F, YBR 125G) — premium
- Electric: Growing options in 2026 — cheaper to run but limited range
2. Verify Documents
Essential paperwork:
- Registration Book (original)
- Seller's CNIC (matching the book)
- Transfer Letter (signed)
- Token Tax receipt
Verify at the Excise office before paying.
3. Inspect the Bike
Check in daylight:
- Frame: Look for bends or welding marks (accident repair)
- Engine: Cold start — should start easily, no smoke
- Tyres: Tread depth, cracks, uneven wear
- Chain and sprocket: Rust, wear, correct tension
- Brakes: Both front and rear must work smoothly
- Electricals: Headlight, indicators, horn, battery
- Speedometer: Verify mileage matches condition
4. Take a Test Ride
Ride for at least 10 minutes on different roads:
- Listen for engine noise
- Feel the gear shifting
- Test brakes at speed
- Check suspension over bumps
5. Ask About Service History
- Last oil change
- Chain replacement
- Battery age
- Any major repairs
A bike with a documented service history is worth more.
6. Negotiate the Price
Use these factors to negotiate:
- Age and mileage
- Condition (scratches, wear)
- Upcoming service needed
- Documentation completeness
7. Complete Transfer
- Pay via cash or bank transfer (avoid advance)
- Get written receipt
- Complete Excise office transfer
- Update insurance if applicable
Red Flags
- Seller can't produce original documents
- Price is 30%+ below market
- Engine smokes or knocks
- Frame is bent or welded
- Chassis/engine numbers don't match the book
Final Thoughts
Don't fall in love with the first bike you see. Look at 5-10 bikes. The right one will come at the right price.
