Online scams are growing fast in Pakistan. Whether you're buying a phone on OLX or selling a car on PakClassify, scammers have many tricks. Here are 10 rules to stay safe.
The #1 rule: never send money before seeing the item in person. Advance payment scams are the most common. If a seller insists on advance, walk away.
Always meet at busy, well-lit locations — shopping malls, banks, or police station parking lots. Never meet at isolated places.
For high-value deals (cars, property, expensive electronics), always bring someone with you. Two people can spot problems that one person misses.
Ask for CNIC, phone number, and any business registration. Verify the phone number is real by calling before meeting.
Don't rush. Test everything. For electronics, check IMEI, warranty, and accessories. For cars, take a mechanic. For property, check documents with a lawyer.
If a price is 40-50% below market rate, it's likely a scam or stolen goods. Trust your instinct.
Cash on delivery is safest. Avoid bank transfers to unknown accounts. Never share OTP codes or PIN numbers with anyone.
Fake registration books, property papers, and CNICs are common. Take documents to the relevant authority (Excise, NADRA) to verify.
Photos can be stolen from other listings. Ask for video call or extra photos with the item next to today's newspaper.
If something feels wrong, report it. On PakClassify, email support@pakclassify.com. On other platforms, use their report button.
If you follow these 10 rules, you'll avoid the vast majority of online scams. Remember: if it feels too good to be true, it probably is.
